How Much Does an Estate Sale Cost?
Most estate sale companies across the industry charge a commission, which is a percentage of what the sale brings in, and some add fees for extra work. What you'll pay depends on the size of the estate, how much work it takes, and what's included. With 180 Estate Sales, it's simple: our fee is a percentage of total sales or a flat rate, whichever is greater (plus a travel charge for sales more than an hour from Carson City), and haul-away of leftovers is included. We'll walk you through it during your free consultation.
How we charge
We keep it simple: a percentage of total sales or a flat rate, whichever is greater. For sales more than an hour from Carson City, a travel charge is added to the minimum fee. Every estate is different, so during your free consultation we'll look at what's in the home and explain exactly how it works for yours. No surprises.
Is my estate big enough?
Not every home needs a full estate sale. If there isn't quite enough for a sale, our sister company, Dunk The Junk, can handle the cleanout for you.
What affects the cost
- How much is in the home: more rooms, garages, and outbuildings mean more setup.
- Value and type of items: a house full of quality pieces is different from a house of everyday household goods.
- Condition and access: very full homes, stairs, snow, and remote properties.
- Timeline: rush jobs take more crew.
- Distance: sales more than an hour from Carson City include a travel charge.
- What's included: the cleanout is often a separate charge at other companies. With us, haul-away is included.
Questions to ask any estate sale company about fees
- What's your commission, and is there a minimum?
- Are advertising, setup, and labor included, or billed separately?
- Is the cleanout after the sale included? What does it cost if it isn't?
- How do I get paid? (With us, it's by cashier's check or wire transfer.)
- Are you insured? (We are.)

How much will my sale make?
Nobody can promise a number before seeing the house, and you should be wary of anyone who does. Results depend on what's there, demand, and the season. After the walkthrough we'll tell you honestly whether an estate sale makes sense. If it doesn't, our sister company, Dunk The Junk, can take care of the cleanout instead.
Is the cost worth it?
For most families, yes. Instead of spending weeks sorting, pricing, advertising, and hauling, the work gets done for you, and it gets done by people who know what things sell for.
